PettusPlots creates independent visualizations from the sources below. It is not an official product of, affiliated with, or endorsed by any data provider. Provider terms and dataset-specific notices control.
UNITED STATES PUBLIC DATA
- NOAA, including NWS, NCEP, SPC, NHC/CPHC, NESDIS/STAR/OSPO, SWPC, NCEI, NDBC, AOML and associated NOAA Open Data cloud archives: radar, satellite, model, warning, tropical, ocean and space-weather data. NOAA-created material is generally public domain in the United States unless specifically marked otherwise. Source: NOAA.
- NASA Earthdata, GIBS, SDO/SOHO and the GPM Precipitation Processing System: MODIS, VIIRS, solar and passive-microwave products. Source: NASA; GPM constellation data provided by NASA/GSFC PPS and mission partners.
- USGS earthquake data and U.S. Census Bureau geographic boundaries. Source: USGS / U.S. Census Bureau.
INTERNATIONAL & RESEARCH DATA
- ECMWF Open Data (IFS/AIFS and ensembles), licensed CC BY 4.0. Contains modified ECMWF data 2026.
- EUMETSAT Metop AVHRR and ASCAT products. Contains modified EUMETSAT Metop data 2026. Core products are CC BY 4.0; account-licensed products remain subject to the accepted EUMETSAT licence.
- Deutscher Wetterdienst Open Data and Government of Canada Open Data. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada.
- Japan Meteorological Agency / Himawari data mirrored through NOAA. Based on data from the Japan Meteorological Agency and NOAA; edited and rendered by PettusPlots.
- Iowa Environmental Mesonet archives and APIs; attribution to the Iowa Environmental Mesonet of Iowa State University.
- University of Wyoming Upper-Air Archive and UCAR tropical archives are transport/archive sources for provider observations and best-track data; the original agency remains the data source.
- UW-Madison SSEC / CIMSS: PettusPlots does not host or proxy finished CIMSS graphics. Users are linked to the official wind analysis, Saharan Air Layer, MIMIC-TC, and MIMIC-TPW2 viewers.
- Synoptic Data observations used by the VWP renderer. Data Aggregated by Synoptic. API use and public display remain subject to the PettusPlots account agreement and originating-network restrictions.
GOOGLE DEEPMIND WEATHER LAB
© 2024-5 Google LLC, whose machine learning models were used to create the experimental data made available under the Google terms. This data is intended for experimental modelling only and is not intended, validated, or approved for real-world use.
FNV3 tracks and genesis guidance are experimental. Data older than 48 hours is licensed CC BY 4.0; current data is governed by Google's separate real-time experimental-data terms.
OTHER PUBLISHERS
- Nadocast severe-weather graphics and data by Brian Hempel (github.com/brianhempel/nadocast), displayed from the publisher's public archive. Copyright and reuse rights remain with the publisher.
- WeatherWise transport feed for Spotter Network locations. Provider and participant rights remain with their respective owners; public reuse requires applicable permission.
- Satellite tracking elements: CelesTrak. Ocean analyses additionally include NOAA Coral Reef Watch/OISST and HYCOM products.
MAPS & OPEN-SOURCE SOFTWARE
- Interactive maps display their required in-map credits for Mapbox, OpenStreetMap, CARTO, and any additional tile providers.
- Sounding rendering uses SounderPy (MIT; Kyle J. Gillett) and SHARPpy / SHARPpy-Reimagined (BSD 3-Clause; SHARPpy contributors). VWP rendering incorporates Tim Supinie's vad-plotter (GPL-2.0) with attribution. Other dependencies retain their respective licences.
