1. ACCEPTANCE OF THESE TERMS

PettusPlots ("the Service", "we") is a weather visualization website operated by James Pettus. By accessing the Service you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. WHAT THE SERVICE IS

PettusPlots renders and displays weather data — radar, satellite imagery, model output, tropical cyclone products, soundings, mesoanalysis, space weather, and related graphics. The Service is under active development: features may be added, modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time without notice.

3. NOT FOR PROTECTION OF LIFE OR PROPERTY

The Service is provided for informational and educational purposes only. Never use it as your sole source for decisions involving the protection of life or property. Data may be delayed, incomplete, mislabeled, or wrong; rendering pipelines fail; servers go down — often precisely when severe weather is happening. For warnings and life-safety decisions, rely on official sources: the National Weather Service (weather.gov), the Storm Prediction Center, the National Hurricane Center, and your local emergency management officials.

4. DATA SOURCES AND ATTRIBUTION

The Service visualizes public-domain, openly licensed, account-licensed, and third-party data. Rights and attribution requirements vary by provider; public access alone does not make a source public domain. PettusPlots does not claim ownership of underlying provider data, and no provider endorses this site. The current provider inventory, required notices, licences, and source links are maintained on the Sources & Attribution page. Provider-specific terms control if that summary differs from the provider's current terms.

5. YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE

• Personal, non-commercial viewing and sharing of individual plots is welcome — keep the PETTUSPLOTS.COM watermark and attribution intact when sharing.
• The PettusPlots APIs and data endpoints exist solely to power this website. Any direct use of them outside the site's own pages — including personal projects, scripts, apps, bots, wrappers, or automated data collection of any kind — is strictly prohibited without prior written permission from PettusPlots.
• Do not scrape, bulk-download, or hotlink imagery at scale, or otherwise degrade the Service for others. Rate limits are enforced.
• Do not attempt to bypass access controls or admin interfaces, or probe the infrastructure.
• Do not resell, rebrand, or misrepresent the Service or its output as your own product, or present it as an official government source.

We may restrict or revoke access at our discretion, particularly for abuse or unauthorized API use.

6. DONATIONS

Donations are processed by Stripe; your card details go to Stripe, not to our server. Donations are voluntary gifts that fund hosting and development — they are non-refundable, confer no goods, services, features, or expectations, and are not tax-deductible (PettusPlots is not a charity).

7. PRIVACY

• Contact form: we store the name, email, and message you submit, solely to read and respond. We do not sell or share this information.
• Cookies: the site sets functional cookies (such as authentication where access controls apply); no advertising cookies.
• Logs and rate limiting: IP addresses appear in standard server logs and short-lived rate-limit counters.
• Analytics: the site uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage; see Google's privacy policy for how it processes data.
• Donations: payment data is handled by Stripe under Stripe's privacy policy.

8. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The PettusPlots name, logo, site design, and original rendering code are the property of James Pettus. Underlying meteorological data belongs to (or is licensed from) its providers. Open-source components remain under their own licenses.

9. NO WARRANTY

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ACCURACY, TIMELINESS, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. NO UPTIME OR AVAILABILITY IS GUARANTEED.

10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, JAMES PETTUS AND PETTUSPLOTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES — INCLUDING DAMAGES ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON WEATHER INFORMATION DISPLAYED BY THE SERVICE, LOSS OF DATA, OR SERVICE INTERRUPTION — EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE DONATED TO THE SERVICE IN THE PRECEDING TWELVE MONTHS, OR TEN DOLLARS, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

11. CHANGES

We may update these Terms at any time; the effective date above will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
